The plan
- Saturday 28 November. Flag-off around 06:30 from the pickup points in Pune. 174 km to Alibaug via Paud, the Mulshi backwaters, Tamhini ghat and the Kundalika river at Kolad, where we cook Maggi. Check in at the hostel by 13:30.
- Pickup points are finalised once registrations close. We pick them from the nearest areas riders give us at registration and share them with everyone before the ride.
- Sunday 29 November. Beach in the morning, flag-off 10:30, back to Pune via Pen, Khopoli and the old Khandala highway (136 km). Home by 15:30.
- Everything after check-in is optional: pool, beach, games, the jam. Join what you like, rest when you want.
On the road, for everyone
- Support car from pickup to Alibaug and back, carrying the medical kit, the hydration kit and water. Anyone feeling unwell or too tired to ride can move to the car at any point.
- Refreshments at three stops on the way: chai or a cold drink and a snack.
- Ride crew: a lead bike sets the pace, a sweep bike rides last with tools and first aid.
The Ride Pass: ₹2,799 per person
One pass, the same price for every rider, every pillion and every organiser. It covers:
- The support car with the medical and hydration kits, from pickup to Alibaug and back.
- Refreshments at three stops on the way.
- A dorm bed at the hostel for the night (women's dorm for women).
- Lunch when we reach Alibaug, dinner at night and breakfast the next morning.
- Stickers, games and the jam.
Not included: fuel (a rider and pillion split their own), Sunday lunch on the way home, and anything personal.
- Bringing a pillion? Add them when you register. Each of you pays ₹2,799.
- Riding solo? When you register, choose "Solo, happy to take a pillion SHUNYA arranges" or "Solo only, no pillion".
- Pillion Seat (women only, 5 seats): for women who want to come without a bike. Same ₹2,799. We pair you with a solo rider who chose to take a pillion; either side can decline, and a seat in the support car is always there. A seat counts as taken once it's paid for.
- EARLY5: ₹200 off for the first 5 bikes.
Minimum 7 bikes
The ride goes ahead on 28–29 November only if at least 7 bikes register by the time registrations close. If fewer do, we move ROAM 01 to a weekend in December and tell everyone straight away. You can keep your spot for the new date or take a full refund.
Who can ride
- 18 or older, with a valid two-wheeler licence and at least one 100 km day behind you.
- A bike of 125 cc or more, registered in your name or with the owner's permission, with valid insurance and PUC, serviced in the last month. Carry the documents (originals or DigiLocker). No scooters on this route.
- ISI helmet, gloves, a riding jacket and closed shoes for you and your pillion, worn whenever the bike moves. No gear, no ride, no refund.
How we ride
- A lead bike sets the pace. Nobody passes the lead. A sweep bike rides last in hi-vis and is never passed; it carries tools and first aid.
- Staggered on open road, single file in the ghats and towns. Two-second gap. Open road 70 km/h, ghats 40, villages 30.
- Regroup at every stop and at the top and bottom of every ghat. Missed a turn? Stop safely and call the sweep. Nobody waits at a junction.
- Buddy pairs: each bike keeps one other bike in sight.
- Breakdown: the sweep stops with you, the group rides to the next stop. The support car follows the group and picks up rider and pillion if the bike can't be fixed.
- Anyone can call a halt at any time. Nobody is told to push through.
- Five hand signals: slow down (palm down), hazard (point at it), single file (one finger up), stop (raised fist), fuel (tap the tank).
The rules
- The captain's call. The ride captain's instructions and the riding protocol are mandatory. A rider who rides unsafely may be stopped from continuing, without refund.
- Alcohol. None before or while riding, on either day. At the hostel it's a personal choice, allowed only after the bikes are parked for the night and the keys are with the captain, and only where the hostel allows it. SHUNYA doesn't supply it. On Sunday nobody rides until the captain is satisfied they're sober; anyone who isn't rides home in the car and their bike waits.
- Not a race. No racing, stunts, phone use or wheelies. Traffic law applies throughout; fines are yours.
- Own risk. Riding has inherent risk. You take part voluntarily and at your own risk, you confirm you have the riding experience for a 300 km two-day ride (or ride as a pillion with someone who does), you're responsible for your own safety, your bike and your pillion, and you won't hold SHUNYA, its organisers or volunteers liable for injury, loss or damage, except where caused by their gross negligence.
- Health. You're fit to ride and have told us about any medical condition we should know about. You've given an emergency contact.
- Women at the stay. Women sleep in a separate dorm, allotted first. The host is the point of contact. Nobody enters another person's room uninvited. Harassment of any kind ends the event for that person on the spot, with no refund, and we involve the police where warranted.
- Pillions. A pillion is a participant: same gear, same rules, same right to stop at any halt and move to the support car. Pillion-seat pairings are made with both people's agreement and can be ended by either side at any time.
- Conduct. Respect the locals, the hostel, the beach and each other. Quiet after 23:00. Leave no trace.
- Consent. You confirm the own-risk declaration and these rules on the registration form, and sign a one-page copy at flag-off. Pillions do too.
Refunds
- Full refund until 21 November. After that, transfer your spot to a friend from your dashboard.
- If we call the ride off (weather, road closures), everyone is refunded in full.
- If the ride moves to December because fewer than 7 bikes registered, you choose: the new date or a full refund.
What to bring
- Licence, RC, insurance, PUC. Full tank at pickup.
- Helmet, gloves, jacket, closed shoes. Swimwear and a towel (there's a pool). A warm layer for the night.
- Phone with offline maps for the Tamhini stretch, a power bank, ₹1,500 cash for fuel and Sunday lunch, your own medicines.
- One small backpack on the bike. Everything else goes into the support car at pickup.
